Rustic country elegance is on full display at our recent design & construct project at Boralma. Situated on 100 acres of land, the completed home features four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living spaces, office, laundry, mudroom, kitchen with walk-in pantry, dining area and double car garage.

The Brief
Our clients were looking for a spacious country home to be filled with charming, yet eclectic features including rustic-look tiles, dark cabinetry and timber accents. We also needed to include an additional living area for the teenage children and an office space for the clients’ craftwork, which could double as a bedroom.
The home’s design was based on one of our pre-designed homes (HSB2), crafted in collaboration with AREI, and was modified to suit the client’s requirements.
With so much land to play around with, we decided to build the home on a 45° angle in order to capture sweeping views across the paddock and allow for the northern sunlight to fill the kitchen, living and dining room space. The result is a beautiful country home that works in perfect harmony with its pastoral surroundings.
Our Favourite Features
There is so much synergy in this home. From charcoal timber cabinetry that extends from the laundry to the bathroom, to striking gunmetal and black tapware that can be found throughout the home.
The space combines the very best of country living with modern design excellence and achieves warmth and cosiness through a rich colour palette of warm browns, refreshing greys and crisp whites. Cutting through this muted colour scheme however are a number of exciting textures and materials, including rust-looking tiles for the kitchen splashback, delicate patterned grey marble and a striking acrylic shower feature.
One of the most challenging yet rewarding aspects of this project is the stunning nil exposure concrete that can be found in the kitchen, dining and living rooms. This type of finish is difficult to achieve, as it requires the concrete to be poured carefully and at the perfect time, so no marks or undulations show through.
Through careful planning and execution, our team managed to achieve an incredibly polished, sleek and smooth finish, generally not seen in residential homes. We owe a huge thanks to the team at Aggenbach Floors for their help in creating this stunning finish.
Some of the other exciting materials used throughout this project include LVL framing supplied by Wesbeam, which is far superior then regular pine. The home also features a selection of PGH Bricks and Colorbond roofing.
Prioritising Sustainability
Whilst harking back to grand country homes, our Boralma residence also integrates the latest in sustainable building technology. Throughout the home we used double-glazed windows for energy efficiency and installed solar power with battery systems that are pre-wired for future use. The kitchen also boasts the finest, state-of-the-art appliances.
Working with the Best
We worked with a stellar team to build this beautiful home from the ground up. We couldn’t have created such stunning finishes without the assistance of our great suppliers, including Steve Browne at Bunnings Trade, Jackie Stevens at Tradelink, and Kane at Ground Up Building Products, who supplied our perfect AWS Vantage windows.
Our subcontractors really went above and beyond on this build. These include KW Roofing, Shane McPherson Concreting, David Thayer Plastering, Plumforce Plumbing, Stamps Electrical, bricklayer Mick Carson, tiler Matt Smith, True Style Painting and Decorating, Mark Nolan Concreting and our wonderful design consultant Candice from Design by Jones.
